A teenager arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house as been named.

Police were called to the house in Leicester just before 6pm on Saturday, September 11 and discovered the body of a woman in her 50s inside.

The woman has not yet been named.

Aaron Matthew, 18, has been charged with murder.

Leicestershire Police say Mr Matthew will appear in court today (Tuesday, September 14.)

A spokesman for the force said: “An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Leicester.

“Aaron Matthew, of Lincoln Street, Leicester, is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Tuesday 14 September).”

The spokesperson added: “Police were called to an address in Lincoln Street at 5.59pm on Saturday following a report that a woman in her 50s had been found dead inside a property.

“She has not yet been formally identified so cannot be named at this time.”

Neighbours have spoken of their shock over the woman’s death. They included one man who has lived in Lincoln Street for 40 years.

He told LeicestershireLive : “I don’t know the woman but I’m in shock.

“The road was blocked off last night and then the police said a woman had died and it was being treated as murder.”

Another said: “It’s a terrible thing to have happened. Suddenly the place was swarming with cops and we were shocked to find out that one of our neighbours had been murdered.

“The house is still cordoned off and forensic teams searching inside.”

Speaking earlier this week, Detective Inspector Kenny Henry, leading the investigation, said: “A man made himself known to police in Peterborough this morning and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.”
